Building & Preservation
This is the trading name of the Company’s building division which operates from Laurel’s Yard, Knellers Lane, Ashurst. It is headed by Nigel Colledge who joined the Company in 1982. At any one time the division employs between 10 and 15 men full time; 7 members have been employed by the Company for more than 15 years. They are a multi-skilled work force capable of undertaking any building work including concreting, brick laying, roofing, plastering and carpentry.
Before Nigel College arrived there was a team whose sole task was to undertake maintenance of the let houses and farm buildings on the Estates. Although that is still the case today, the division regularly undertakes new build work for “third parties” which have included The Girl Guides at its Lyndhurst HQ, local Scout Groups, churches, parish councils as well as individual home owners.
In the last 10 years the Barker-Mill Trustees have commissioned the division to build more than 30 new houses on Estate land which the Company then lets and manages for the Trusts.
